On 11 and 12 May 2023 the second project meeting of SafeCREW took place in Milan. On the first evening, the team was hosted by our partner MM in the Water Museum Milan and learned about the start of waterworks in Italy. The second day we were hosted by POLIMI. We looked at the achievements of the first six months and discussed the plans for the next period. The scientific exchange has been very lively and productive and we made a significant step forward. It was good to see each other in person for intense exchange. In the afternoon we visited an active waterworks in San Siro, Milan, and got insights into the water supply system in Milan.
Friday started with a visit in the quality lab of MM before we continued discussion on our next scientific targets. During the upcoming twelve months we’ll focus on driving forward the development of novel reliable methods to evaluate microbial stability, characterize natural organic matter (NOM), detect DBPs and account for their human health toxicity. This will provide the basis for guidance to effective risk assessment and resilient water management procedures under climate change conditions.
A big thank you to the POLIMI and MM team for hosting us this time.
