From 21 to 26 July 2025, a working visit to Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI) was organized specifically for representatives from the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (NUWEE). The program aimed to deepen professional competencies in the fields of water safety and treatment technologies through a combination of academic meetings, technical training, and site excursions.
Participants engaged in a series of expert-led meetings at POLIMI, focusing on the latest developments in integrated water resource management. A key area of learning was the methodology and implementation of Water Safety Plans – an essential tool in ensuring the safety and sustainability of drinking water systems.
In addition, participants took part in excursion tours to several water treatment plants in Milan, where they observed real-world applications of advanced treatment technologies and operational practices. These visits provided valuable insight into the functioning, monitoring, and management of municipal water infrastructure in a European context.
A special component of the visit was hands-on training in simulating water treatment processes using Python-based models. This session introduced participants to computational tools that can support the design, optimization, and monitoring of treatment systems – an increasingly important area in digital water management.
Finally, participants were introduced to the process of creating educational videos on water treatment for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs). This segment highlighted the use of multimedia and digital tools to enhance public education and professional training in the water sector. The visit fostered meaningful academic exchange and opened new avenues for future collaboration between POLIMI and NUWEE in the areas of environmental engineering, water safety, and digital modeling.
