Insights from 4th International School on Water Reuse (ISWR)

From 15 to 17 September, researchers, experts, and professionals from various sectors, including water utilities and agriculture, convened at the University of Turin to discuss the theme of water reuse. The 4th International School on Water Reuse (ISWR) organised by the Università degli Studi di Torino with the support from the European Commission Joint Research Centre offered a comprehensive exploration of water reuse, tailored specifically for PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and professionals in sectors such as water utilities, agriculture, and industry.

Our partners form NUWEE joind the intensive three-day training program which focused on sustainable water reuse, integrating technical, regulatory, and social perspectives while providing valuable networking opportunities for academics and professionals engaged in water resource management.

The program featured expert lectures, interactive workshops, roundtable discussions, case studies, and a role-play game on risk management plans. Additionally, participants visited the SMAT wastewater treatment plant to explore industrial water reuse. SafeCREW reseearchers Serhii Kunytskyi and Alla Kucherova from the National University of Water & Environmental Engineering, Ukraine enjoyed the opportunity to acquire multidisciplinary knowledge within an international context, related to the topic of water reuse: from the legislative framework to the application of innovative wastewater treatment technologies, with a look at environmental impact assessment, economic aspects and risk assessment.
