On April 21, 2026, an in-person seminar titled “Improving the safety of municipal water supply system” was held at the National University of Water and Environmental Engineering (Ukraine) within the framework of the SafeCREW grant project. Participants were introduced to approaches for reducing the formation of disinfection by-products (DBPs), as well as methods and technologies for the oxidation of contaminants and disinfection of water in drinking water supply systems. Water supply systems with treatment facilities of the Tarragona Water Consortium (Spain) and the city of Milan (Italy) were also examined. The seminar concluded with a presentation on the development of Water Safety Plans and a panel discussion to develop pathways for cooperation and directions for future research in Ukraine.
The feedback was very positive: the 24 participants were strongly interested in the specifics of drinking water treatment in the EU and in the lively discusson, they drew comparisons with the quality of drinking water in Ukraine.
