The 15th BioDetectors Conference 2025 in Genoa, Italy, brought together about 100 scientists from about 15 countries worldwide who are involved in the development and application of in vitro effect- and non-animal-based methods (EBM/NAM). Toxicological experts shared insights on challenges in the water cycle in Italy and other countries. Many different case studies and applications with NAM were presented to detect general toxicity, endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs, such as PFAS) in water, food, plastics and for the protection of wlildife and human health.

Biodetection Systems organised the conference. Peter Behnisch and his team presented the SafeCREW project and presented the results from measureament at several case studies with many different pollution classes (DBP, PAHs, PFAS, pharmaceuticals) in different waters (e.g., drinking water, migration water from plastic coatings/lining).
