SafeCREW researcher Maolida Nihemaiti (UFZ) participated in the 9th Late Summer Workshop on 21-24 September 2025 at the waterworks Langenau. The workshop was organized by the German Society for Water Chemistry and focused on “Water Resources under the Stress of Climate Change.” It offered a platform for about 50 early-career researchers to discuss the impacts of global change on water quality. Maolida Nihemaiti presented her findings on the occurrence of novel, highly polar sulfonated disinfection by-products in drinking water, highlighting the importance of advanced analytical methods for detecting emerging contaminants. The event fostered active scientific exchange and networking among researchers and experts in water chemistry and environmental toxicology.
Maolida’s research fed into SafeCREW’s analytical protocols and policy briefs and publications:
- SafeCREW Analytical Protocol #1 – Advanced analytical procedures for the characterization of sulfonated disinfection byproducts in drinking water
- SafeCREW Policy Brief #2 (1 February 2026): “Major Outcomes on Disinfection and Disinfection By-Products and Solutions“
